Thus, as picture books were known for their text with elaborated pictures, the researcher wish to conduct an action research in incorporating ecosystem picture book creation into the arts and humanities curriculum. Through questionnaire and interviews, reflection and modification during action research, the researcher wish to enhance her knowledge in environmental education and in ecosystem picture book creating instruction and to raise students’ awareness of the importance of environmental issues. The present study presented lesson plans of ecosystem picture book creation and the results of the present study are as follow: First, teaching topic and material selection for the ecosystem picture book creation had to fit student’s competency. The curriculum should start from easy to more complex contents and should follow the “concept integration curriculum” design model. The curriculum should also incorporate a variety of teaching strategies in order to reach the instructional goals of combining environmental education with art creation. Second, by introducing students with different activities in the process of creating ecosystem picture books, students’ visual literacy had been enhanced along with their cognition, value, attitude, and motive skills towards environmental issues. Third, the picture books students created demonstrated that combining environmental education with art creating activities was valuable and meaningful. Forth, through employing systematic analysis during action research over the ecosystem picture book creation curriculum and through co-teaching, the instructor had enhanced her professional knowledge and skills. Finally, suggestions on curriculum design, the employment of teaching strategies, students’ assessment and issues dealing with the school administrations were presented.
