Summary:碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 幼兒教育學系教學碩士班 === 96 === This study reports on the problems confronting the immigrant spouses of the study in their participation in their children’s reading, the ways to improve the immigrant spouses’ skills in parent-child joint reading through the action research of the study, and the changes in the immigrant spouses after their participation in the reading project of the study. This study employed an action research method. The subjects of the study included three five-year-old children and three six-year-old children in the class one of the researchers taught and their immigrant mothers. One of the mothers is a Vietnamese and the others are Mainland Chinese. The data of the study were collected from documents, observations, audio recordings, video recordings and interviews for qualitative analysis. As revealed by the findings of the study, the problems confronting the immigrant spouses and their children in their joint reading included their unfamiliarity with the Taiwanese phonetic symbols, the difficulty in reading and writing the traditional Chinese characters and the children’s distraction in parent-child joint reading. The parent-child joint reading skills of the subjects were improved through parent-child joint reading developmental activities, sharing the information attainable from articles concerning joint reading strategies, borrowing books to enhance joint reading and design learning materials for joint reading activities. Among the benefits the immigrant spouses obtained after their participation in their children’s reading were their positive attitudes towards parent-child joint reading, improvement in their Chinese reading ability, more willingness to participate in their children’s reading, finding parent-child joint reading interesting and betterment of parenting capability and parent-child relationship. According to the findings and discussions of the study, this thesis propose suggestions for teachers of classes with children of immigrant parents, governments, schools and future research to promote the parent-child joint reading skills, interests and interaction relationships of immigrant parents and their children.
