Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 文化與自然資源學系社會科教學碩士班 === 97 === The purpose of this study is to explore the impact of picture book teaching upon the self-concept of students in elementary schools by means of a series of well-designed courses on the subject of life education. Quasi-experimental research is implemented in this study. The samples are from 5th graders of two classes in an elementary school in Tainan City. One class, as the experimental group, had undergone 6-week experimental teaching, while the other, the control group, experienced normal teaching. The Student’s Self-Concept Scale is adopted as the measurement tool. The pre and post-tests were conducted respectively one week before and after the experimental teaching, in order to examine the differences between the experimental and control groups in terms of the impact of the picture book teaching upon the self-concept of the students in elementary schools focusing on the subject of life education. Quantitative and qualitative approaches are adopted to analyze the data collected. Quantitative analysis software used incorporated one-way and two-way ANCOVA, which was conducted to testify the hypothesis of this study. In addition, in terms of the qualitative analysis, the worksheets as well as the unit and general feedback sheets were further used to elucidate the reaction the students experienced regarding the experimental teaching for the purpose of providing a broader vision in relation to the impact of picture book teaching on the subject of life education upon the self-concept of students in elementary schools. Findings and Suggestions are elaborated as follows: I. Findings A. The picture book teaching on the subject of life education has significantly improved the development of the self-concept of students in elementary schools. B. Schools and the administration divisions should in reality enhance the administration efficiency, integrate all the teaching resources, and put the teaching of life education into real practice. C. Further research a. The range of the samples should be enlarged. b. A longitudinal study should be conducted in order to increase the validity of the findings. c. Further qualitative analyses should be applied in further research in order to prevent the problems associated with self-conceptual research. d. More research variables are recommended for future research.
