The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of an emotional
education curriculum on strengthening emotional competence in preschoolers
of disadvantaged socioeconomic status, and to analyze whether learning effects
will be different from the control group.
The pretest-posttest equivalent-group design is adopted in thestudy. The
subjects are 84 of 5-year-old children of an affiliated kindergarten of an
elementary school in Taidong County. The children are selected through
questionnaires of disadvantaged socioeconomic status survey, including 28
children in experimental group ( disadvantaged socioeconomic status), 28 in
disadvantaged control group and 28 in advantaged control group, 84 children in
total.All children using the self-designed emotional education materials,only
experimental group took the experimental teaching of extra curriculum which
is divided into 6 units, 21 topics; The main experimental tool is “Testing Scale
of Emotional Competence Development in children ” (Shu-Zhen Jian and Li
Tsung-Wen Kuo, 2006). Analyze the consequence of the testing scale by the
method of descriptive statistic such as mean and standard deviation and
demonstrate the structure of samples.
The outcomes of the research are as following:
(1)An emotional education curriculum has learning effect on
strengthening emotional intelligence in preschoolers of disadvantaged
socioeconomic status .
(2)An emotional education curriculum has learning effects on awareness
of emotion in preschoolers of disadvantaged socioeconomic status.
(3)An emotional education curriculum has learning effects on
understanding of emotion in preschoolers of disadvantaged socioeconomic
status.
(4)An emotional education curriculum has learning effects on
expression of emotion in preschoolers disadvantaged socioeconomic status.
(5)An emotional education curriculum has learning effects on regulation
of emotion in preschoolers disadvantaged socioeconomic status.
(6)The effects of an emotional education curriculum on strengthening
emotional competence in preschoolers disadvantaged socioeconomic status will
not be different according to gender.
