Therefore, it is difficult to maintain the traditional bus service-- fixed frequency and fixed route. Many bus operators are considering to begin to reduce or stop the service. Thus, the utilization on rural bus is getting worse, even under the subsidies of government. For this reason, an advanced of transit system service –DRTS (Demand Responsive Transport System) is proposed by this study. The DRTS is an advanced, user-oriented form of public transport characterised by flexible route and schedule of multiple combination of different size vehicles. They are usually operating in shared-ride mode between pick-up and drop-off locations according to passengers needs. This will transform the supply—oriented bus service into the demand-oriented bus service. In first year, this study will design the reserved function for the usable vehicles can be recruited, such as taxis, tour buses and other small or medium buses. Then will decide the optimal vehicle combination and scale, and develop the optimal reserved dispatching model based on the objective function (minimized internal social cost). In second year, this study will evaluate the efficiency of different dispatching algorithm and calibrate the feasibility of DRTS by several case study. The outcome of this research will enhance the integration between public transport systems and improve the system efficiency and come to the win-win-win situation on government, passengers and operators.
