Furthermore, the study compares and analyzes the students’ ways to solve speed problems. A total of 166 students from six classes participated in this study. Each of the classes was chosen from six schools located in Kaohsiung city, Kaohsiung county, the mountain area of Kaohsiung, Pingtung city, Pingtung county and the mountain area of Pingtung respectively. The study was implemented on three stages. Firstly, the students were examined with the tests edited by Fang Jei Jane (1995) so as to collect the data of the students’ pass rates and scores. Secondly, they were interviewed in order to understand their thinking process when solving the problems. Lastly, their test performance was compared with those in 1995. The study results indicated that there was a distinction between two groups’ performances on solving speed word problems. In addition, the students in 2009 group outperformed those in 1995 group on two-thirds of the test items. Among all the problem categories, they performed better than the 1995 group on most of the categories except those of “non-hidden conditions”, “sound situation”, “speed hidden situation”, and “time unknown and speed hidden situation”. Both groups made the same errors in the categories of “formula misuse”, “variable mistaking”, and “hidden condition handling error.” However, different from the 1995 group, the 2009 group were found to have made new errors on the categories of ”unit transfer timing error”, and “inverse ratio concept error.” none 簡清華 學位論文 ; thesis 109 zh-TW
