HIIT is a time-efficient strategy and consistent with the training model of badminton competition. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of physiological adaptation, energy metabolism and exercise performance in badminton players by HIIT for two weeks. Methods: 15 high school badminton players of age 16.73 (2.89) years, height 170.13 (5.51) cm, weight 61.40 (5.63) kg, played 7.00 (2.00) years, and VO2max 53.47 (8.72) ml/kg/min participated in this study. In accordance with an average of VO2max, 15 players are assigned to the HIIT group and CON group. The repeat cycling interval training, which includes 30-second maximum exercise (heart rate: 180 beats/min) with 4-minute recovery, were proceeded 4~6 times repeatedly. After two weeks, a total of six HIIT with three times a week were compared in two groups to survey the changes in physiological, energy metabolism and exercise performance. The data was analyzed by independent sample t-test, ANCOVA and mixed design two-way ANOVA. Results: The results showed that, only Y step footwork aerobic capacity tests, which heart rate recovery in after 3-minute and 4-minute, was significantly different (p<.05), other measurements else did not have significant difference. However, the average scores of the HIIT group were higher than the control group. Conclusion: According to the above, although there was no significant effect in this two-week high intensity interval training in exercise performance, blood lactate concentration, heart rate and aerobic energy metabolism, it was able to improve heart rate recovery rapidly after exercise. Therefore, effectiveness of the HIIT training for badminton players can be researched further to find out better practical application in badminton training.
