Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 課程與教學研究所 === 98 === Based on the theories of cognitive and moral development, care ethic, experience -based and social learning, this research aims to develop a teaching model for integrating picture book reading into character education. The three moral characteristics chosen by the researcher are responsibility, care and respect. They are based according to analysis of reference on the core content of personal characters in Taiwan, as well as, other parts of the world. This research adopts a qualitative method. The subject is a class of upper graders at an elementary school in Taipei County whereby eight picture books were used in the reading program. Through observations, interviews, data analysis, discussions, and self examinations, the teaching and learning process of responsibility, care and respect were studied. During the picture book reading process, the researcher proved that the students learned and tried to possess the three moral characteristics through four major activities. Firstly, the students listen to the stories, followed by discussions, extended activities and lastly, feedback session between the students and the researcher. The students were willing to introspect and change their behaviors afterward. Integrating picture book reading into character education helps students become more confident and also improves interpersonal relationships and class atmosphere. The teacher gains professional knowledge from the program as well.
