Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立東華大學 === 企業管理學系 === 99 === Organizations must rely on their top management teams’ (TMTs’) knowledge structure and integrate team members’ diverse experiences in order to make better decisions regarding organizational objectives and strategies. Previous TMT research tended to focus on high-tech and manufacturing industries; this study shifts attention to TMTs in service industries. The present study consists of two parts. Study 1 presents an organizational-level analysis of the relationship between TMT characteristics and organizational performance. Study 2 presents an individual-level analysis of the effect of individual managers’ characteristics on their compensation. Using data collected from publicly traded American hotel companies’ annual reports and proxy statements, I found positive impact of TMT heterogeneity and tenure on organizational performance (Study 1). The results of Study 2, on the other hand, show that managerial pay was affected by individual functional background heterogeneity and whether or not a manager also served as the Chair of the board of directors.
