The research tool used was Raven’s Progressive Matrices which included Colored Raven’s Progressive Matrices、Raven’s Standard Progressive Matrices and Advanced Raven’s Progressive Matrices. The pieces of data for this research corresponded to the family background information of the Counseling Cards、the marks of Raven’s Progressive Matrices and the academic achievements of elementary students from grade 1、4 and 6. The statistical analysis with the Chinese Edition SPSS12 showed: 1.There’s no obvious difference in figure reasoning ability between boys and girls. 2.The figure reasoning ability gets improved with age. 3.The figure reasoning ability and the socio-economic background have significant positive correlation. 4.The figure reasoning ability and the academic achievement have significant positive correlation. 5.The academic achievement and the socio-economic background have significant positive correlation. 6.The figure reasoning ability has more powerful effect on the academic achievement than the socio-economic background.
