The participants consisted of 30 seventh-grade students, and the research had been implemented for 12 weeks, including 10 worksheets. The objectives of the study were to explore the effective ways to apply the portfolio assessment to English teaching, to understand students’ attitudes and responses toward the portfolio assessment, to analyze the effects of students’ English learning attitudes and English learning performances, and to explore teachers’ professional growth. During the research period, the data were collected through teacher’s observations, teaching journals, worksheets, students’ learning reflections, interviews, and questionnaires. Based on the data analyses, both qualitative and quantitative methods, the results were concluded as follows: 1. The portfolio assessment is suitable for the English teaching in a junior high school; 2. Students showed positive attitudes and responses toward the portfolio assessment; 3. The portfolio assessment can improve students’ learning attitudes and performances; 4. The portfolio assessment can enhance teachers’ professional growth.
