An experimental study method was used in this study. A sample of 50 young children participated in this study. The experimental group and the control group were evenly devided into 25 young children for each. The experimental group received story structure instruction for 6 times. All subjects received the pretest and posttest of narrative ability. The results of the study indicated that: 1.The story structure instruction included elements of story structure, guided reading, analysis of story structure, interaction among peers, story house mapping, and story retelling. 2.The strategies of story structure instruction have helped young children to build up their understanding of story structure elements, familiarize with stories, and experience of the roles’ emotions and reaction. 3.The story structure instruction enhanced 5-year-old children’s narrative ability. 4.The story structure instruction to 4-year-old children was less effective in their narrative ability.
