Therefore, the researcher has learned Veeh-Harfe and realized that historical notation helps the mental retarded do better sight reading. For this reason, the researcher has joined the music teaching program of Veeh-Harfe in the community college, using case studies by observing, interviewing, and accessing rating scales in pre-and-post test for moderately and severely retarded students. The curriculum which is focused on Veeh-Harfe teaching goes on a 2-hour lesson a week continued for 18 weeks, including rhythmic teaching in mother tongue, application on historical notation, performing techniques, and ensemble teaching, etc. The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of learning Veeh-Harfe on the moderately and severely retarded on the aspects of their abilities of motor development, metacognition, social life, and emotional competence. Also, the study is to see if learning Veeh-Harfe arouses their interests in music, and enables them to perform independently. Thus they can view Veeh-Harfe as a recreation to enhance their quality of life, and even more, as a professional skill for their life career. The findings of this study are summarized as following: 1.The use of historical notation and rhythmic teaching of Veeh-Harfe enables adults with mental retardation to learn how to perform it independently. 2.The Veeh-Harfe the playing ability, personal interest as an adult with intellectual disabilities, and helped to build up the fun of learning music , it can be used in adults with intellectual disabilities, career education and lifelong education curriculum planning,and future career preparation abilities. 3.The performing techniques of Veeh-Harfe are considered to be professional skills in career plan for adults with mental retardation, in which it sets a great vision and corresponds to the social trend emphasizing the combination of jobs and interests. 4.The performing techniques of Veeh-Harfe not only enhance the quality of life, but also become one of recreations for adults with mental retardation. In addition to giving them basic recreation, we should offer a variety of choices and help them fit in the community, thus they can lead a better life.
