Description
Summary:碩士 === 銘傳大學 === 應用英語學系碩士在職專班 === 102 === The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of using an instructional e-book to enhance junior high school 8th grade students’ English learning and to find out the differences in their achievement scores between an instructional e-book teaching approach and a traditional paper-based teaching method. The study focused on a control group (24 students) and an experimental group (24 students). A mixed quantitative and qualitative method was used. Two questionnaires, a pre-test and a post-test were distributed to the two groups of students (48 students) to collect both quantitative and qualitative data. Questionnaire 1 and a pre-test (achievement examination) were filled out by 48 students in the beginning of the new semester. After 8 weeks of different teaching approaches applied to the two groups by the same teacher, a post-test was filled out by the 48 students while Questionnaire 2 was only filled out by the students in the experimental group. The results of the pre-and post-test were analyzed by a t-test and Cronbach’s Alpha in SPSS. The data results showed that there was a significant difference between the scores of the pre-test and post-test in the two groups, which indicated a significant effect in regard to using the instructional e-book in teaching. The data results from Questionnaires 1 and also indicated that using the instructional e-book could raise students’ English learning motivation. Therefore, based on the findings, English teachers are encouraged and suggested to use instructional e-books to activate their curriculum and instruction, which can increase students’ learning motivation and their study achievement.
