This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of the Seediq fourth grade students’ mathematical concepts. The study was conducted in Ren-ai Township, Nantou County, at an aboriginal elementary school and targeted towards fourth grade students. Therefore, the study has been divided into 3 sections. First, we discuss the design of the course. After study the Seediq culture for more than 3 months, to design a mathematic course for fourth grade students. The course had combined the Seediq culture and the content was presented by the picture book. Second, we investigate the practice of the teaching activities by practicing the hands-on teaching method for a half day in the morning, and then in the afternoon to learn the course through the tournament activities. Third, we analyze the teaching results. The data which were aimed at the examination papers for the students before and after the course, the worksheets, and the video taking; all these data were taken into consideration and analyzed for this experiment. Then, we begin to discuss on the basis of the study results. First, the data of the examination papers had shown that after the course students had clearly progressed in the two concepts, including " Number and Measurement" and " Geometry ". Second, the hands-on teaching method had increased the interest for students in learning mathematics, and had also increased overall effectiveness. Third, however, students still need to strengthen the ability in reading textbooks and understanding question s on the examination paper. The overall conclusion that can be made from the findings and results is that combining the culture into the mathematic course can effectively enhance aboriginal students’ ability to learn mathematics and the hands-on teaching method can, not only help the aboriginal students to think and to clarify the mathematics concept, but also approve aboriginal students for their own culture identity. Furthermore, it was suggested that in the near future can be extended the duration of teaching time and lead the students to read and understand the textbook. If suggestions and recommendations from this intense study are followed, we expect that the aboriginal students will have great changes for problem solving and cognitive-learning in mathematics.
