Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 兒童英語教育學系碩士班 === 104 === The single-grouped study aimed to explore the effect of English learning app on the 5th graders’ English word recognition and learning attitude in the English remedial class. Six 5th grade students participated in this study seventy minutes per week for six weeks. Data required for the study were collected through the pre- / posttests of vocabulary, weekly quizzes, a participants’ feedback questionnaire as well as semi-structured interviews and further analyzed with paired sample t-test and Wilcoxon matched pairs signed ranks test. The results of the study indicated that after 6-week experimental instruction, the participants significantly improved their word recognition ability, especially in the connection between English word sounds and word meanings, and the connection between English word forms and word meanings. Moreover, the participants revealed very positive attitude toward English learning app in terms of their interest, confidence, and learning performance. Based on the findings, some suggestions are offered for relevant English instruction and future studies.
