Based on a case study of Beijing Xing Zhi Exploring Cultural Development Company, this research aims to analyze how to awaken the value of implicit resources from the development of the Xuan Zang Road Gobi Challenge. The findings reveal that the awakening process of implicit resources of the Gobi Desert include three stages: redefining resources, giving new value to resources and combining with external resources. Secondly, by using three mechanisms in these stages, telling a story, inspiring the inner-self and connecting with external networks, to transfer implicit resources into core competitive advantage resources to innovate a new revenue model, thus forming a unique industry ecosystem. Not only focus primarily on scarce or difficult to imitate resources as conventional Resource-based theory, this study make important contribution to focus also on awakening the value of implicit resources. In practice, this study explores the innovative elements of the business model of the Xuan Zang Road Gobi Challenge, which can be a reference for related industries. When enterprises can learn the way to add new value to resources, have the ability to take the lead in business models innovation.
