We took 34 elementary school pre-service teachers majored in Entomology curriculum of Natural Science Department, National University of Education as purpose sample. This study adopted mixed methods with both quality and quantity research. First, we taught elementary school pre-service teachers for insect knowledge and POAA teaching method (8 weeks). Second, we demonstrated how to use POAA teaching method in Entomology experiment course (5 weeks). Finally, elementary school pre-service teachers use POAA theory to design Entomology experiment course and Entomology Argument Worksheets (EAW) (4 weeks), and micro-teaching in the class. We used Evaluation of Guided Toulmin’s Argumentation (EGTA) to assess micro-teaching and EAW. We also took pretest and posttest on elementary school pre-service teachers with Science Inquiry Competence Test (SICT) and Science Argumentation Quality Test (SAQT) at Entomology class start and the end. This study not only analyzed quantitative data but also collected EAW, EGTA and Self-Efficacy Scale (SES) for analyzing. The result showed that: 1.After Elementary school pre-service teachers learned a lot of insect concepts, they could use insect knowledge and science concepts to design POAA experiment course. 2.Elementary school pre-service teachers didn't increase their Science Argumentation Quality at stage of practicing designing experiment because they still need time to learn and to use POAA theiry at this stage.and most of their experiment design could confirm science concepts. 3.After the process of cultivating by Entomology course, elementary school pre-service teachers can use POAA theory to design insect experiment, the explanation of EAW can improve scientific argumentation, let students find support theoretical basis for further explanation and interpretation. 4.The pretest and posttest of SICT and SAQT results showed significant difference, they mean that elementary school pre-service teachers had learned science inquiry competence and science argumentation quality after Entomology curriculum. This study suggested that Entomology course should move to third year of college so that elementary school pre-service teachers can study more course about designing experiment to increase their experimental design capabilities.
