Summary: | 碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 科學教育研究所 === 106 === The purpose of this study was to investigate the impacts of cooperative learning, STAD on eighth grades students’ learning achievement and perception in learning science. This study mainly used action research and partly adopted quasi-experiment approach. The researcher developed six STAD teaching units to teach the experimental group (n=50). The other two classes had fifty-three students and fifty-one students as the control groups which were received traditional didactic instruction by two teachers.Three teachers had more than ten years of teaching experience. This research result was mainly based on the performance of 154 students in a large middle school at Klang Valley Malaysia. The period of the research was conducted for two action- research cycles. Before cooperative learning method was used, the average scores of achievement test between the experimental group and the control groups were not significantly different through the analysis of independent samples t test. To examine the effect of the cooperative learning of the action research, the achievement scores in the first and third sessions were analyzed by ANOVA and the achievement scores of second session was analyzed by ANCOVA. The questionnaire of student perceptions of learning science developed by Lin, et al. (2013) was used to investigate the experimental group students’ learning perceptions. The experimental group was administrated the questionnaire before and after each cycle of action research. During the action research, video recorded, semi questionnaire and the teaching journals were coded and analyzed. The results indicated firstly that difficulties in implementing STAD cooperative learning included curriculum design, teaching strategies and student unfamiliar with this strategy. The results demonstrated that the impacts of cooperative learning had improved students’ learning achievement, but students’ perceptions of learning science did not show significant differences after implementing STAD cooperative learning. At the end of the study, the researcher provided some recommendations to improve the approach of teaching as well as research methodology to future researchers.
