Summary:碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 應用外語系 === 106 === The purpose of this research was to examine the effect of English language pop songs on listening performance of junior high school students and their opinions toward English song instruction. The method used in the study is a single-group pretest-posttest experimental design. The subjects were 9 students whose ages range from 12 to 13 years old and the study was conducted in a cram school in Yun-Lin County. The scores of the listening comprehension tests were analyzed using Paired Samples t-tests to explore the progress in listening after the intervention and One-Way ANOVA to investigate the gender difference in listening progress. The opinion survey and the interview transcripts were collected by using semi-structure interview. The result of the study showed that the use of English language pop songs had a significant effect on students’ listening comprehension and their attitudes toward English song instruction were positive. Students’ opinions were identified. They are enjoyable, motivational, helpful for listening, improving concentration and building up confidence in learning English
