With the process of action research, this study develops the language teaching model by integrating festival culture to understand the efficacy of festival culture in language teaching and the feasibility of integrating language and culture teaching. The researcher designs the integration of festival culture into Mandarin Curriculum in the course for 2nd graders. During the research, data was collected via teaching journals of the teacher, observation records of partner teachers, learning sheets, course evaluation, questionnaires and interview records. Research resultsobtained are analyzed and summarized according to the research purposes below: 1. Through the process of action research, this study develops the language teaching model based on the theme of festivals. 2. Students are found with good learning efficacy when conducting language teaching based on the theme of festivals and this has positive impacts on the motivation of 2nd graders to know more Chinese characters. 3. It is feasible to conduct language and culture teaching courses based on the theme of festival to encourage 2nd graders in the elementary schools to know more words and read more.
