Description
Summary:碩士 === 靜宜大學 === 教育研究所 === 107 === This study aimed to explore the effects of incorporating the adapted scripts of Readers Theater into English class on 5th graders’ motivation and achievement. The study adopted the quasi-experimental design with unequal groups, and both groups took the pre-tests and post tests. A total of 46 participants were recruited from two of four 5th grade classes at a public elementary school in Taichung city. The experimental group consisted of 22 students and adapted the scripts of readers theater under the quidence of the teacher, and the control group contained 24 students instructed by the teacher using the original script. The study took place 20 minutes twice a week for a total of eight weeks. Both groups took theEnglish Learning Motivation Scales as the pre-test a week before the experiment, and did the the English Learning Achievement Test and the English Learning Motivation Scale as the post-test after finishing the experiment. The analyses of covariances were applied to analyze the group differtences in post-tests after controlling the effects of the scores of English final exam of the first semester of 5th grade and pre-test of the English learning motivation scales. The results of this study were as follows: 1.Except for the “passive” dimension, both control and experimental groups got higher scores on other dimensions of “English Learning Motivation Scale” in the post-test than those in the pret-est. In addition, after controlling the effects of pre-tests, the experimental group got higher scores than the controlled group in all of the dimensions of English learning motivation except for Passive dimension. 2.After controlling the scores of English final exam of the first semester of 5th grade the experimental group had higher English learning achievement than the control group. Based on the results, it showed that the adapted scripts had better effects on promoting English learning motivation and learning achievement than the scripts provided by a teacher. Finally, practical and research suggestions were provided based on the results.
